Guest Post: Making Your Own Bachelorette Party Costumes

So you want to make your bachelorette party a night of good fun and frolics, fancy dress and fizzy wine? A night out is expensive enough on its own, without spending a tonne on a fancy dress outfit that you will probably only wear one time. A lot of girls like to co-ordinate their outfits when they have a themed bachelorette party, but do not necessarily want to look identical. A good way to get hold of some matching outfits that all have their own individual twist is to make them yourselves. This could even be an activity as part of your bridal shower or a good girls night in making your costumes for your bachelorette party, or hen party as the Brits call it.

Tutus

Some cute easy to make outfits are tutus. These can be worn over some leggings or hosiery and can look quite sexy too, just make sure these skirts are not too short! To make a tutu, you do not have to be a master seamstress. All you need is a few lengths of different coloured netting which is a couple of dollars a metre from the fabric store. Lay two or 3 lengths on top of each other; stitch some elastic around the top edge and then sew the two ends together and you have a skirt! Each girl can have their own different colours.

Angel costumes

Angel costumes are fairly simple to make too. Take a couple of light weight wire coat hangers and bend them into wing shapes, and twist them together. You can then wrap lengths of tinsel around the wire to make the glittery shape of the wings.  To wear your wings, tie 2 large loops of elastic securely around the middle of the wings, so that you can stretch the elastic over your arms and onto your should like a satchel bag. Make a halo by wrapping some tinsel around an Alice band.

Cat costumes

Dress as some cute little kitties by simply using a pair of black pantyhose, some black felt and an alice band. Cut the panthose in half so that the legs are separated. Stuff one of the legs with some newspaper or old rags, and tie it at the end. This is your tail, which you can pin on to the back of your pants or skirt. To make your ears, you will need to cut out some felt triangles and stitch these onto the alice band in a way that they will stay standing upright. You can get creative with some kohl liner drawing whiskers on your face for a cute finish.

Review & Giveaway: The Bride's Year Ahead

I got the opportunity to review The Bride's Year Ahead: The Ultimate Month-by-Month Wedding Planner by Marguerite Stolen and Claudia Gryvatz Copquin.  This is actually the updated second edition of the planner.

This planner encompasses the 12 months up until your wedding.  It's unique in that it provides just as much information to the bride as it does places to write your information.  Every month, it also gives you a small calendar to write information in and a folder to put important documents.

There are plenty of worksheets in the planner to document important information, compare vendors, and help you create lists that will help keep your organized.

The organization of some of the information is a little weird to me.  They book has you planning your invitations 11 months out from the wedding, when you could realistically do that closer to the wedding and book more important vendors further out.  If there is a section that you don't plan on doing until closer to the wedding though, you could skip over that month and come back to it at another time.

One thing I loved about the planner is its flower section.  They give you the information about what colors popular flowers come in, what months they are available and the price range.  They also have pictures of all the most popular flowers.  This is great if you don't know much about flowers

The planner gives room for listing up to 180 guests, which is way more than most planners offer.  It allows you to list the important information (name, relationship with couple, and contact information) as well as what events they will be attending (from engagement party to open house).  It also has an area closer to the back of the book where you can create your seating chart.

All in all, it seems like a great wedding planner and would be very helpful in helping keep your organized.
