While thinking about your own budget for your wedding, you should also be thinking about your bridal party. Being a bridesmaid is definitely not cheap! You total up the cost of the dress, shoes, hair, make-up, and pre-wedding parties and that can be a pretty penny.
One great way to help save some money for your bridesmaids is to find cheaper dresses. The best way to save money is to let them pick whatever dress they want in the color you choose. But, if you're not willing to forgo the matchy matchy dresses, another great option is prom dresses. They're normally cheaper than bridesmaid dresses and they also go on a huge sale after prom is over!
All of the following dresses are sold at promgirl.net and are all under $150!
Here are some options for long, traditional formal dresses for your bridesmaids:
If you're more interested in short dresses, here are a few of those:
Would you be willing to forgo traditional bridesmaids dresses in exchange for prom dresses to help save your ladies some money?

I bought previous-season party dresses for my bridesmaids (the rule in the UK is that the couple pay) for £25 each. They had been £80 new. Ignore the exchange rate - something in the UK that would cost £25 would usually cost $25 in the US.
Don't buy into the wedding tax! Things don't have to be expensive just because it's a wedding - they have to be however you like them.
I agree with this to some extent. A bridesmaid dress can be a prom dress but it shouldn't LOOK like a prom dress, you know? The plunging necklines and rhinestones on the bust is a dead give away, but the simpler dresses with structure(especially the last one) could work very well. Also, check out cocktail dresses or even basic homecoming dresses. They're usually cheaper because they're not as flashy as a prom dress and you could doll up those outfits with a statement necklace to make them special. :)
This is an interesting idea, and I think lots of people HAVE used prom dresses as bridesmaid dresses and even vice versa, but I guess the aim is to make it less tacky, so if you find a prom dress that is that good, grab it when you can :D
These dresses are gorgeous and I love that they can be worn again. I also think they are sexy but sophisticated and would be a huge hit among the bridal party and guests.
We got the dresses for my girls at Sears and they were only $79 each! They all loved them and they are a dress that can be worn to a party again after the wedding as it can be dressed up or down!
