If you're doing assigned tables at your wedding (which I highly recommend you do), having unique escort cards will surely be a hit.
If you're doing a theme of sort or have a re-occurring element in your wedding, try to tie that into your escort cards.

Awesome ideas! We handmade wine-cork escort cards for our guests.
I love the rock with the gold hand-written names on it. :D The sand stand for paper escort cards is also one great idea. :D

I am a wedding coordinator here in Costa Rica and recently had a bride with a travel theme. Her escort cards were little wooden airplanes. They were painted gold and then had hand written names on each. We were all super happy with the results!!!
